Bei der Pressekonferenz zum Opernball 2026, die am 16. Jänner 2026 stattgefunden hat, legt den Fokus der Eröffnung dieses Jahr auf Broadway-Feeling.

Das Or­ches­ter der Wie­ner Staats­oper spielt un­ter der mu­si­ka­li­schen Lei­tung von Di­ri­gent Pablo Heras-Casado, es sin­gen die Opern­stars Pretty Yende und Benjamin Bernheim. Auf dem Pro­gramm ste­hen der Wal­zer Nr. 2 aus der Sui­te für Va­ri­e­té-Or­ches­ter von Dmitri Schostakowitsch, To­night und Ma­ria aus Leonard Bernsteins le­gen­dä­rer West Side Sto­ry, Art is cal­ling for me aus The En­chan­tress von Victor Herbert so­wie Brin­di­si (Li­bia­mo ne‘ lie­ti ca­li­ci) aus Giuseppe Verdis La tra­via­ta.

In ei­ner Neu­kre­a­ti­on von Cho­re­o­gra­fin Jessica Lang und in Kos­tü­men von Giorgio Armani ist das Wie­ner Staats­bal­lett mit dem Carou­sel Waltz aus Carou­sel von Richard Rodgers und Oscar Hammerstein II zu er­le­ben. Es tan­zen 32 Mit­glie­der der Com­pa­gnie.

Au­ßer­dem spielt wie­der das Wie­ner Opern­ball Or­ches­ter un­ter der Lei­tung von Andreas Spörri, und be­reits zum sechs­ten Mal ist die Tanz­schu­le Santner für die Cho­re­o­gra­fie des Jung­da­men- und Jung­her­ren­ko­mi­tees ver­ant­wort­lich. Getanzt wird zu Bitte Schön! Polka-française op. 372 von Johann Strauß (Sohn).

Be­reits zum vier­ten Mal setzt der Wie­ner Opern­ball durch die Un­ter­stüt­zung von »Ös­ter­reich hilft Ös­ter­reich« (Auf­schlag auf Ti­ckets und Kon­su­ma­ti­on am Ball) ein Zei­chen für so­zia­le Ver­ant­wor­tung und So­li­da­ri­tät, auch die Ver­stei­ge­rung des Opern­ball-Su­jets von Arnulf Rainer, Schwar­zer Samt, ro­te Sei­de, kommt »Ös­ter­reich hilft Ös­ter­reich« zu­gu­te.

At the press conference for the 2026 Opera Ball, which took place on January 16, 2026, the focus of this year’s opening was on Broadway flair.

The Vienna State Opera Orchestra will perform under the musical direction of conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, with opera stars Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim singing. The program includes Waltz No. 2 from Dmitri Shostakovich’s Suite for Variety Orchestra, Tonight and Maria from Leonard Bernstein’s legendary West Side Story, Art is Calling for Me from Victor Herbert’s The Enchantress, and Brindisi (Libiamo ne‘ lieti calici) from Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata.

In a new creation by choreographer Jessica Lang and costumes by Giorgio Armani, the Vienna State Ballet can be seen performing the Carousel Waltz from Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Thirty-two members of the company will be dancing.

In addition, the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra will once again be playing under the baton of Andreas Spörri, and for the sixth time, the Santner Dance School will be responsible for the choreography of the young ladies‘ and young gentlemen’s committee. Bei der Pressekonferenz, die am 17. Jänner 2025 stattfand, stand der Jahresregent Johann Strauss im Fokus des Interesses. Auch die künstlerische Eröffnung des 67. Wiener Opernballs ist ganz auf dieses Jubiläum ausgerichtet.

Das Orchester der Wiener Staatsoper spielt unter der musikalischen Leitung von Cornelius Meister, es singen Nadine Sierra, Kammersänger Juan Diego Flórez, Maria Nazarova und Daniel Jenz – auf dem Programm stehen der Csárdás aus Ritter Pásman, der Walzer Frühlingsstimmen, »Bella enamorada« aus El último rómantico (von Reveriano Soutullo & Juan Vert) sowie »Alle maskiert« aus Eine Nacht in Venedig.

In einer Neukreation von Martin Schläpfer, Ballettdirektor und Chefchoreograph des Wiener Staatsballetts, tanzt das Wiener Staatsballett mit den Solistinnen und Solisten Elena Bottaro, Natalia Butchko, Sonia Dvořák, Olga Esina, Alexandra Inculet, Hyo-Jung Kang, Sinthia Liz, Katharina Miffek, Ketevan Papava, Claudine Schoch; Timoor Afshar, Rashaen Arts, Jackson Carroll, Andrés Garcia Torres, Masayu Kimoto, Marcos Menha, Kristián Pokorný, Duccio Tariello, Arne Vandervelde, Géraud Wielick sowie vier Schülerinnen und Schülern aus der Ballettakademie den »Kaiserwalzer«. Den Auftakt mit der Fanfare gibt erneut das Bühnenorchester der Wiener Staatsoper unter der Leitung von Markus Henn.

Die Choreographie des Einzugs, der Eröffnung und des Eröffnungswalzers obliegt bereits zum fünften Mal dem Geschwisterpaar Maria Angelini-Santner und Christoph Santner.

Wie im Vorjahr wird auf die Karten und die Gastronomie am Ball ein Solidaritätsaufschlag aufgerechnet.

As in the previous year, a solidarity surcharge will be added to the tickets and catering at the ball.
